Installer 4.0

• To be honest, Cydia Installer is terrible. The interface is nowhere near as good as Installer. Most jailbreakers are just waiting for Installer 4.0 to come out instead of wasting their time with Cydia. Installer 4 is nearing completion. It will now be released to the major repository owners so that they can get their apps compatible with firmware version 2.0 fast.
  
• Installer 4 will be released to be public in a few days. It has not yet been disclosed how Installer will be available. There are three options: Installer option in PWNAGE, Installer available as application download through Cydia or Installer avaiable as stand-alone download, either direct to iTouch or iPhone via Mobile Safari or available for SSHing manually.
  

2.0 Apps

As of now, hardly any of the old apps have been ported to 2.0 from 1.1.x, not even the ever - famous Installer.app. Cydia Installer is the replacement, though a new 2.0 compatible version of Installer, 4,0 is to be released shortly. It is said to have a modified interface. Customize 2.1 has been released for 2.0, though it has a lot of bugs.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 2.0

Make sure you have iTunes 7.7 installed.
Download iPod Touch Firmware 2.0 Build Version 5A347 and WinPwn 2.0.0.3 for Windows.
Uninstall the old version of WinPwn if you have it and then install 2.0.0.3. Open it.
Browse .ipsw and select the firmware file that you just downloaded.
Go to IPSW Builder. Select 'Install Cydia' only. Choose custom images if you wish to (recommended). Ignore Custom Playload. Click on 'Build .ipsw' tab in the southwest corner of the window. After your custom firmware (.ipsw) file is built, WinPwn will notify you. Select 'OK'.
Then go to 'iPwner'. Select your custom firmware file and click 'Open'. After a few moments, you will receive a message saying 'Your iTunes has been Pwned!' Select 'OK' and close WinPwn.
Put your iPod Touch in DFU mode and connect it to your PC. iTunes will recognise it as an iPod in recovery mode. Click on the Restore button and don't leave it. At the same time, keep pressing the Shift Key. A browser will open up. Find and select the custom .ipsw file that you just built. Your iTouch will restore and restart with 2.0 jailbroken.
Your iTouch will contain 2.o and all its features (including the App Store), the January Software Upgrade and the Cydia Installer.

The Pwner Tool

The iPhone Dev Team have made a free app known as the WinPwn 2.0 that PWNS your 2.0 iPhone or iTouch. The tool has already been released for Mac users. The Windows version will be released shortly.

Downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4

If you are not happy with 2.0, you can easily downgrade back to 1.1.4. First, disconnect your iPod from the computer. Then uninstall iTunes 7.7, restart and reinstall either iTunes 7.5 or 7.6. The setup files are available for free on the internet. Then put your iPod in DFU mode and connect it. iTunes will recognise it as an iPod in recovery mode. Go to the internet and download the iPod Touch firmware version 1.1.4 file for free. Then return to iTunes. Go to restore and click and press the Shift key together for 10 seconds. A browser will open up. Find the 1.1.4 firmware file you downloaded and select OK. The iPod will restore and reboot with 1.1.4 installed.

Putting and removing recovery mode in iTouch

Make sure your iPod is not connected to a computer.
Press and hold the power and home buttons simultaneously for 20-30 seconds.
A 'connect to iTunes' icon will appear on the iPod screen.
Your iPod is now in recovery mode.
Connect it to a computer. iTunes will recognise it as an iPod in recovery mode.

To get out of recovery mode, download the free app ZiPhone from the internet onto your computer. Select Advanced Options and go to Normal Mode.

Putting iTouch in DFU mode

Press the power and home buttons at the same time. After 10-15 seconds, release the power button but continue pressing the home button. The iPod screen will black out. Connect it to a computer. iTuned will recognise it as an iPod in recovery mode.

Getting Firmware 2.0 for free on the iTouch

Download the custom 2.0 firmware file for free on the internet.
Go to iTunes (a version lower than 7.7)
Go to the Restore option and click and press the shift key at the same time. A browser will open up. Locate the firmware file you downloaded and select OK.
The iPod will restore and reboot with firmware 2.0 and all its features installed.

Firmware 2.0

Along with the release of the iPhone 3G has come the 2.0 firmware update for the 1G iPhone and the iPod Touch. The infamous App Store is included in this update. Some other features are the search utility in Contacts, an update for Maps, Push Data features, two additions to Mail: Microsoft Exchange and Mobile Me. The Calculator has also been modified. The January Software Upgrade is included in 2.0. You can download pictures from Safari or Mail onto your iPhone or iTouch. You can also take screenshots without using third - party applications. The 2.0 upgrade is free for all iPhone users and costs $9.95 for iPod Touch users.

Viewing the internal stuff of the iTouch

Do you want to copy some files onto your iTouch without using iTunes?
Here's the answer.
Firstly, you need a jailbroken iTouch,a Windows PC (or maybe Mac, I'm not sure) and a working WiFi connection.
On your iTouch, go to Settings/ General/ Autolock
Click 'Never'.
On your iTouch, go to Installer.app
Choose Install/ All Packages
Find OpenSSH and install it.
In the unlikely event that you can't find it, add the source http://123locker.com and then try again.
Once OpenSSH is installed on your iTouch, (no icon will appear) go to the internet on your PC and find and download the free software WinSCP. Install it on your PC.
Once installed, go to the WiFi network settings on your iTouch and press the small blue arrow next to a connected network.
Copy the IP address there word for word and type into WinSCP. (it will ask you to when you open it)
WinSCP will also ask you for a username and password. The username is root and the password is alpine.
Once ready, connect you iTouch to the PC, close iTunes if open and click on Login in WinSCP.
You are done.
The iTouch internal hidden folder (flash memory folder) will open up.
Enjoy editing, but be careful! Don't delete a file that is necessary for the iTouch to function properly.

Using Customize

Search for Customize in All Packages and install it. For extended features, install SummerBoard from All Packages as well.

Get more space for your apps

Search for BossTool in All Packages on the Install tab of Installer.app. Install it.
Click on it, Free Disk Space, then Relocate Fonts. (and Apps and Ringtones of you wish)

Get Apple's January Software Upgrade apps free

Open Installer, select the Sources tab, select Edit, then Add:

Refresh sources
Select the Install tab, find iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps.
This will install all the apps as well as the wiggle feature.

Jailbreaking iTouch 1.1.4

Download a software called ZiPhone from http://download.ziphone.org/
This software is available for Win and Mac users only.
Plug your iTouch in and restore it through iTunes. This will wipe everything off your iPod and update it. Make sure it is updated to firmware version 1.1.4 only.
Leaving you iTouch plugged in, open ZiPhone and choose the second option: Jailbreak.
Many scary things will happen on your iPod but fear not. After it is done, you will find the Installer app on your iTouch home screen.
